To drive in Western Samoa, foreign visitors need to obtain a temporary local driver license at the Ministry of Transportation office; to do that a foreign driver must bring his domestic driver license.

The main road traffic rules:

• Traffic moves on the left side of the road.
• The minimum driving age is 18 years.
• Wearing seat belts when driving is mandatory.
• The speed limit is 25 mph (40 km/h) in Apia and 35 mph (56 km/h) outside Apia.
•  The permitted blood alcohol level is 0.08%.
• The police phone number is 999.
• To rent a car in Samoa, any driver needs to be at least 25 years of age and have held his driver license for at least one year.
